That sounds good as daps like Sony wm1z don't generally have enough power.
I'm also considering the AK Kann cube and Cayin n8 but they are more expensive. Have you tried and compared to those?
Give me a few days I just received the Cube last night.
DAPs these days, eh? They really can do A LOT.
I think I'll get the qp2r, as they are now a low price. I don't need streaming as have an m11 for that. What are good iems/headphones for the qp2r?
You are correct. There are quite a few that seem to fly under the radar. Until I got the Kann Cube I had a whole string of "featureless" DAPs which have incredible sound. I now have two DAPs which could be used as desktop DAPs because of their ability to drive high impedance HP's.
What price range?
Yes! What a ride iMod was years back, or cowon D2 earlier considered as powerful. Sorry for off-top, fond memories and all that...
D2+ was my first DAP. I looked it up on a site called anythingbutiPod.com. It worked for years and then a charger killed it. I was still using it in 2013 with a custom skin when I stopped lurking on HeadFi and started commenting. This place is great.
Yes, we remember this site! From there the main DAP geek at our office found out about Rockbox, he got his X5L first and then went straight to iMod and one of amps by Ray Samuels, P-51 Mustang.
The first quality DAP I used was iriver T60 and EP-630. Good old days!
The first DAP I used was an iPod / iPhone and then I bought a QP1R as my first quality DAP. Now a QP2R sits alongside of the QP1R.
One bold move and case closed, a DAP for years!
Would a qp2r power a set of fostex th900 well?
HE-1000 needed balanced. I think the two are similar difficulty to drive, but TH900 original is hardwired and MK2 has proprietary connectors (might be compatible with HD600/650 connector as they look similar).
I tried powering the Abyss Diana out of the QP2R at Canjam last year out of SE and the iFi xDSD did better. For really demanding cans you probably need balanced on the QP2R.
I haven't tried th900 with QP2R, so can't say for sure.
Thanks, I'm still pondering on n8 or qp2r. The qp2r is so much cheaper that I could get some headphones too. What do you use with yours?
