The CD72 plays CD-R/CD-RW discs fine, right?

And, in the opinions of those who have heard it, how is its bass response? Tight and punchy? Deep? Is the sound generally forward, or more laid-back...smooth...detailed...etc?

I did a quick search and found a little bit of information, just wanted confirmation or an expansion.
