Hello, I'm a complete newbie to configuring/setup of DAC/AMPs and I'm wondering how to use different devices as sources.

Lets say I purchased a Schiit Jotunheim 2 DAC/AMP with the AK DAC module.

I have a Fiio M15 DAP and my Dell Laptop.

To use either my Laptop (with music stored locally) or my DAP, I would have to get a USB-C to 3 PIN XLR male cable and plug that into the back of the Jotunheim 2 for balanced IN to use them as sources. For the laptop, I would have to just plug the USB-C through my laptop port, for my Fiio DAP, would I have to use the LINE-OUT mode when connected to the Jotunheim 2 this way?

I also see 4.4mm male to 3 PIN XLR male cables, would the purpose of these cables be to use my Fiio DAP's built in DAC instead of the DAC Module?

I intend to use full sized headphones via the 4.4mm to 4 pin XLR adaptor for the output from the AMP.

I'm a bit confused.

You have to buy an usb type a to usb type b cable so the digital cue from your computer can move into the akm dac module of the Jot
If you have another dac, repeat the above step then connect that dac to cra in or xlr in on the Jot

Thanks, what about if I want to use the Fiio M15 as a source?

Hmm is there any digital output on the Fiio? For example: micro usb, usb type c..? It is depended on the manufacturer's allowing its portable player (dac+amp) used as a dac only..

On the Fiio M15 there is a USB C and it should have a line out option for AMPs, I would probably need a USB C to 3 Pin XLR male cable,

Can someone confirm? Thanks!

I seem to be looking at the wrong info somewhere,

My apologies, Line Out would be the 3.5mm jack on my Fiio M15 and all jacks from 2.5mm to 4.4mm can be used as Headphone Out lines.

So wouldn't that mean I would need a 3.5mm to 3 Pin XLR cable to run balanced to the Jot 2 amp?
