Hi this is my first post here. I bought a set of klipsch custom-1's on amazon for 30$, I figured it was a good deal. I was wondering if their are any mods i could do to make the cord stronger, because that seems to be the main weakness in them. I was thinking wrapping some electrical tape around the base of the cords to strengthen it, but I have no idea if this will adversly affect the sound.

Also, I am not an "audiophile", but I can tell the diffrence between good sound and bad sound, I think I will notice a big diffrence between the klipsch and the cheepie skull candys (i was on a budget and they fit my ears!). Am I correct in this assumption? All I am hoping for is for them to sound close to as nice as my Sennheiser HD-202's.

Any ways, thanks in advance!

Depends on the Skullcandy model. To me the Custom 1's aren't that much better than the Skullcandy Titans, but at least they're more comfortable. The wire holds up well IMO. It's just a pain as it is very prone to kinking and tangling. The L-plug doesn't really need reinforcing if you ask me but wrapping tape around it won't affect sound. Just take care of them - keep them in the case when not in use, don't wrap the cord around your ipod, etc.

Ok thanks, the skull candys are the "smokin buds or w/e the cheapest ones are.

i always enjoyed the custom 1, the cord on the ones i have is not bad either as its the old flexable one. be prepared for noting like the bass on the skullcandys even with olives on them. great isolation and supremely comfortable too.

wait till you get them and see what cable they have.

What do you mean, do the the custom ones have more or less bass? As long as the bass is present and decent, i can *gasp* eq it lol, and comfort and isolation and having them stay on was my main prority, plus decent sound obviously.

Thanks!

I've always liked my Custom-1's too. They certainly have their weaknesses (primarily in the bass department), but their mids are very nice and detailed. Vocal, piano, and guitar sound great.

I'd say they're best suited for more mellow genres such as folk, acoustic, jazz, and certain types of alternative. But the recessed bass becomes less noticeable the longer you have them on for.

As for the cord, aside from it getting a little tangled, I haven't had any of the problems that others have complained about. My biggest problem was with the fit. The angle of the nozzle made it difficult for me to get a good seal, but sticking some olives on solved that problem.

less. just dont listen to them and go omg these have no bass im sending them back!!!!! your ears will be used to tons thats all. like drink some coke, its really sweet stuff. eat a couple of bits of fudge then take a mouthful of coke and see how sweet it tastes. your ears do the same thing.

the custom 1 are one of my fav cheapies when they go randomly on sale.

Ah ok thats cool, I dont realy listen to rap hiphop much, I listen to Modest mouse, Built to spill, Radiohead ect., so bass isnt a nessesity, plus I have my HD202's for that.

Thanks a ton!
