I'm trying to pick out my rechargeables for my sr-71

and I can't tell the difference between

9.6V 230mAh Rechargeable NiMH Battery

and

8.4V 300mAh

Mostly because I'm completely ignorant about these things. The confusion comes from the 8.4 one being priced a little higher than the other.. what i can piece together, i'm thinking still that the 9.6 voltage is going to run my amp better... i certainly wouldn't want to be undercutting it on the power... but i have no idea what mAh even means.. gAh!

the only other concern after getting enough power is the battery life.. maybe that's related to mah

help!

You probably don't have too much to worry with the 8.4 V cell under-powering the circuit. As to the the mAh rating, a higher rating means you'll get a longer life out of the cell. For example, a circuit that only needs 2 mA will get 115 hours of use from that 230 mAh cell whereas it will get 150 from the 300 mAh cell. I might have mixed that up, but I believe that is the gist of it.

I've used 9.6v vs 8.4v and i must say the sound quality difference was substantial. I was using it with a GRado RA-1 and the 9.6V elimiates all the sharp and fatigue, a night and day difference. Highly recommend getting the 9.6v if you can. It seem to provide better current output which is why it has lower battery life.
