Hi, I have a CAL Sigma that I picked up used a bit ago. It seems to work well with one issue.

When using toslink cable coming out of a xitel sound card, if the link between the soundcard and the DAC is broken (due to rebooting or something), when it comes back the DAC makes a weird grinding noise -- not in the speakers, but actually in the unit. (using a coax cable does not cause the noise, and whether a toslink out of another source would cause it is unknown as i have no more toslink sources.)

Has anyone seen this, or have any idea what it is? Once the noise passes, it works quite well.

I've never heard anything like that out of mine. I would be a little concerned. There really shouldn't be any moving parts, you know? Since it's some sort of mechanical noise, I would take the top off and reboot your computer to see if anything visible happens at the same time.
