I am ripping all my CD's but I run into a couple problems...

1) For example when ripping Tupac some come out as 2Pac so they get filed seperatly, and they do the same when uploaded onto my iPod. How do I change this?

2) For some compilations they will actually organize every artist on my iPod so I have a bunch of scattered files with 1 song in them.

3) Some audio CD's come out with no text at all.

Thanks for the help.

try using freedb to tag all of your files. If you use EAC, it's built-in, but you need to profile an email address. Foobar also has a freedb plug-in to tag files on your playlist.

The iPod organizes by id3 tags, so if you have "Tupac" and "2pac", those will be considered two different artists. You have to retag the files as one artist if you wish for all of the songs to be under the artist organization, if that made any sense.

Ok, to be a but more specific...I ripped about 5 different Tupac Discs.

It made two seperate folder, one that says compilations (dunno why) and the other that says tupac. The one that says compilations directed "All eyez on me" to it. If I just copy the "all eyez on me" and paste it in the Tupac folder will that work?

I use itunes

Same deal. Different title database. If you just want to change the artist name in iTunes (before or after the rip/encoding)- Highlight the songs. Right click 'Get Info'. Change artist name.

Also watch out because the databases that both Musicmatch and iTunes use are full of errors. Make sure you check against the CD's tracklist, and compare what the database brings up with what you already have.

For example, one database brings up Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits as Artist: Bob Dylan; Album: Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits while the other is Artist: Bob Dylan; Album: Greatest Hits.

On a side note, iTunes could really take a page out of MMJB's book when it comes to tagging and ripping. iTunes has no "Super Tagging" and it doesn't even download the cover art for CDs you rip.

A lot of people may have gripes with musicmatch...but I agree that the tagging/supertagging features are incredible and definitely the highlight of the program.

You will find no matter what system you use, you will often have to "correct" tags to match your organization style. For example, I always remove the "The" from artist names (eg "The Beatles to "Beatles). This helps keep things better alphabetized IMO. Songs with multiple artists listed can also be problem areas as they often result in albums being split up in different artist areas.
