hi,
I have a question regarding purchasing items from ebay. it is against Ebay regulations or unethical to contact a seller about an item that is up for bidding and negotiate a private transaction? thanks for any info on this matter.

You can always just bid like crazy and drive the price up with 5 days left on the auction with no reserve.

But yes. You're not supposed to do that.

Well, unless the seller lists here and decides to sell through here, and withdraws the auction on eBay.

I guess that's the gray area.
