What is better to use, by track or by album? And what does constant gain do? I have quite a few songs that are one offs and are not part of an album so I am thinking I should apply gain per track. Right?

By album tries to preserve the dynamic range of an album and so louder songs will stay louder than softer songs whereas by track tries to hit the goal you set for your db gain level. One off songs you should do by track gain.

OK, thanks. I'll do singles and albums separately then. I don't want songs that are meant to be quiet on an album made to be louder than they are supposed to be.

Don't know what constant gain means?
