I am just wondering, does laptop DVD players has a region limitation as well?

The reason I am asking is, I have a Japanese laptop (partner's), I wonder whether I can play Australian DVD (Region 4) DVDs with it?

I know Japan is DVD region 2, but I'm not sure whether the laptops from Japan are also set to DVD region 2 only.

I can't read Japanese, that's why I'm asking.

I think that's software dependent on computers. I'm sure you can find some region-free dvd software.

the DVD drives themselves have region limitation built into the firmware, however there are region free dvd programs that bypass this firmware limitation

I have an Apple PowerBook. It will lock to a region after about 5 plays of DVD's from the same region, when using the Apple DVD Player software. If I use another player app, such as VLC, the software will ignore the regions. I'm NOT writing this from experience, since I don't watch DVD's on my computer, but this is what I have read.
