hi all, i'm relatively new to this forum and have been looking to purchase a decent used portable amp. i realize that i cannot post in the FS/FT forums until 30 days & 50 posts - no problem there. however, i have sent PMs to multiple folks with stuff for sale and i have only gotten one response. so my question is - is no response pretty typical for PMs since i have almost no posts? just venting more than anything i guess

first of all, this should be in general discussions section.

But people should respond most of the time, maybe they're just busy? Or maybe item is already sold/ pending

actually, i think this should have been in the FS/FT forum, but that was not possible. thanks for your reply. i should probably just chill out. this forum is really quite large. i was just wondering if there was some unwritten code not to sell to those with few posts to keep out potential scammers.

Just a small question from another newbie regarding the sale/trade forums.
Being non-English, I still get what FS/FT/WTT++ means, but I still haven't figured out what the abbreviation IC stands for. If someone could enlighten me on what I would me most grateful.

the first seller I approached on Head-Fi this way refused to sell to me on the grounds that i was "new."
however, the second seller i approached had no reservations and the transaction went smoothly, so i think attitudes will vary from member to member.
i did however, at least receive responses from everyone i made inquiries to, so i'm not too sure what to make of that.

I've had no problem getting replies. Whenever I'm interested in something, I pm ther seller adding my references (heatware and ebay id). It shows the seller that you're serious and that you're not a scammer.

When I first joined, there were members who would place in their adds "buyer must have at least XX number of posts". I never understood this logic. What does number of posts or feedback matter when you are the buyer. The buyer is taking all the risks. The seller does not release the item until he has been paid.

We have a large membership and attitudes vary wildly. I recently sent a pm to a member who I did not know but respected looking for advice. The member chose not to respond to me. Could have been any number of reasons why not, but that is his/her perogative. I certainly don't hold it against my fellow member.

Same with the for sale section. Many members will not do business with anyone who does not qualify to post in the section. Others don't care. Some members are cautious and some risk takers. As a brand new member, you pose greater risk than someone who has established themselves on the forum.

Bottom line, participate. Join in some discussions. It's okay to make rookie mistakes.
