Hi, i got myself in a long journey trying to find my dreamed headphone in a blind world. Since i live in Canada and much every store don't have lot of headphones choice or are priced like the devil himself want to rip us i have auditionned lot of headphones recently that i bought from head-fi members. I heard great headphones and i think i am touching my last journey since i bought one pair of headphone that just get me some good smilling times, the 05 DT880. They are a lovingly pair of headphones and just seem to make the music light and floating. However sometime with lot of my music i feel like i need some more oomph and some bass to get the music to get in my bone easier. The DT880 just float, i now need something that i can feel. So i tought of two headphones, the Senn HD650 and the Denon D2000. Since i can't still get my finger on whose of these headphones gonna end my quest for personal satisfaction in terms of musicality, i request your help to guide me. To drive the beast i will use a PPAv2 maxxed or a RP5.1 from rudistor. So whose headphones do you think can make me smile violently and if the HD650 is the answer where can i find them for the cheapest? Thank you for your time gentlemen.

1. HD650 2. Darth Beyers. I can't think of another, and I've heard a few including the Denon D5000 (but not the 2000). I have trouble with most bright headphones (the DT880s kill my ears with the treble). I wouldn't call the Denon's bright, so if you're just looking for contrast, they'll fit the bill. I think the Senns are better phones by far, and I also prefer the Darths to the D5000s, though admit the Denons would be better all-rounders.

Thank you boomana! I appreciate your comment, so you think that the HD650 is more what i am looking for? I will keep that in mind. Also i heard that the HD650 and RP5.1 are a great combo? Anyway anyone have other impressions, oppinion of people that head both would be gladly taken into account.

Regarding price for the HD650s, check out B&H--if you call or email them, they'll quote you a price of $325.00 with an option for free shipping. It's the best deal that I could find as of last week.

I do own both, the Denon and the Senn.
No RP5.1 though and I've never listened through it, but until recently I did have a Rudistor RPX 33 dualmono and I still have an older Rudi RP 31 that's currently coupled with the Denon in a secondary rig.
I wouldn't subscribe to boomana's view that " the Senns are better phones by far".In technical terms the Senns are a bit better as far as they scale better with better quality upstream electronics, especially balanced stuff, but I wouldn't call them far better per se when driven single ended. The same league with different strengths and weaknesses from my point of view.
I think the Denons are a better complement for the Beyers. You do already own headphones for "serious" listening, and the Denons are very good in the fun department.
The bass is really addictive (and I'm no basshead).A bit much to call it neutral but not totally overpowering.
More forward sounding than the (sometimes boring) Senns, and definitely no veil. And comfortable.Even more comfortable than the Beyers, and way better than the Senns.
For classical music I would prefer the Senns, but for rock and pop music in the widest sense I prefer the Denons.

Hummm interesting point of view, i know that the Senn don't get much air time in the FS section and i think this is because people love them. I already audition a pair of HD580 and loved them but i didn't had the setup i have now. And in the other hands the Denon sound to be a fun and energetic headphone, Cosmo you didn't tell if the Denon add a dark sound spectrum like the HD650 cause that's pretty much what i am looking for, fast or not i need weight.

Dark, I dunno.
The Denons are bass heavy and do certainly provide "weight", but not very similar to the Senns.
Whoever described the Denons as a kind of closed HD650 hears definitely differently.Might be deaf ......
The Senns do provide a mid bass hump and are in this sense also bass heavy, but in a different way than the Denons. The Senn bass is not that well defined, a bit muddy (which can be improved by stellar amps).
The Denon bass, well, it's hard to describe ........
It's not that much better in technical terms when you analyze it critically, not in the same league as the Omega II bass, but it's very addictive when you just loose yourself into the music.
It does convey a unique kind of impact in the bass department.Yes, impact, from headphones. The whole cranium seems to resonate sometimes. It probably isn't, but it seems so.Bizarre effect when you listen to recorded japanese giant odaiko drum, but I like it.
For my girlfriend it's even too much although the frequency balance isn't totally warped DT 770 like. She can't stand the impact and thinks it's unhealthy ........
For me it's so much fun, and that's the reason I'm utilizing it at all.
I own several far more expensive and more "audiophile" rigs, but in the end it's about the pleasure and the Denons do deliver in spades in combination with electronica, rock and pop.
The reason why I'm hesitating to call the Denons "dark" is the treble. Not too much of it for the fake detail effect, but not recessed like the Senns either.
Dependent on the upstream electronics it can even be a bit harsh.
A bit.Not extremely like the Sony SA5K or an undernourished ATH-W5000.Don't plug the Denons directly into the headphone out of a Benchmark DAC.As a frame of reference:the DT880 you are familar with is as least as or more prone to harshness, but still ......
Connected to my old Rudistor RP31 there's no harshness at all unless the recording is totally crappy.

I'm also looking for a similar type of headphone to complement my 2005 DT-880s. Something slightly less detailed would be fine, but with more bass. Dark seems to be a perfect word for it.

I'll definitely be checking out HD650s and D-5000s. I plan on getting a pair to hold me over while I finalize what Darth Beyers I want.

Does anyone know how well each one would match up to a Millet Hybrid with 12AE6A's?

Thanks everybody, after searching through various thread about both HD650 and D2000 i settle to give the Senn a try. From a different thread it is said that the RP5.1 is one of the best mate for the HD650, ill see that. On a completly different hand i try my CD3000 with my PPA tonight and it was magical. If i didn't need the money i would keep these two, hope that the HD650 RP5.1 combo will get me the same highs

Highs as drugs high not trebleish highs hahaha

The bass effect you are explaining make me remember the sensation i was having with my late Ultrasone Proline 2500, it seemed to me that my head was shaking when a hard bass drop was played, it was realy cool, but at the same time they weren't for me for other reasons. Cool bass they had though hehe.
