Can anyone think of a reason not to hang two gilmore UltraReg power supplies in parallel off of the secondaries of a single dual-primary transformer(capable of 4 amps per secondary, the schematic calls for 1A per secondary)? Any impact on fidelity? I'm thinking that since I would otherwise just split the AC signal at the jack into two transformers, it wouldn't make a difference to split the 36VAC signal right before the rectifiers, if the appropriate power rating was present.

This would enable me to use a comparatively expensive(3x as much) transformer, from toroid.com, rather than the Talema ones that Meier-Audio and Headamp use. Think it's worth it? Anyone else have experience with Toroid Corporation of Mayland?

Hi,

That is called dual mono. Two regulator units sharing a transformer. I believe that will make very little or no effect to the sound quality. You can share rectifier block too. But then I doubt sharing rectifier block will make much difference as long as your amp doesn't pull in enormous current ... say 5A or something.

Just so you know, according to Walt Jung, toroids are not so suitable when you are not restricted to super compact chasis and your PSU has its own chasis. This is because toroids does not damp high frequency noise coming in through AC outlet. Walt Jung suggest using dual bobbin type which is a little larger and leaks a bit more field. (All these doesn't matter a bit when your PSU has its own chasis.) Many avoid it for the field leakage, but then I testify that I get no intereference from tranny even when the amp is less than 1 inch away from tranny.

P.S. Is that avator a girl?
