QUAD ERA-1 Thread

Thanks for sharing! Although the headphones is released for about 9 months, there are not that many reviews online yet.

One question though. Does anyone know if the Quads are in fact a duplicate of the Yogoda JPM-101? Or have these headphones totally been designed and manufactured by Quad?

Quad designed, manufactured in Asia.
Just like, almost, everything else except for sand and air and water.

"when in Rome, do as the Roman's do".

"When in Soviet Russia, do what Stalin says".

"When in the USA, tolerate everything silently, or else"

""When manufacturing the next "NEW" Audiophile model set of $4500.00 USD Headphones, use Asian Parts and Labor and paint them black""

I like the Quad's.
They sound nothing like the Sendy Aiva's, and vice versa....

"From every headphone, giveth us it's own unique voice, therefore, expect no other".....:)

So... After much research and thought I ordered the Quad Era-1 today. Have a Astell&Kern Dap I will pair them with. Will probably bild a "Whammy" headamp from PassLabs later this summer.
My well used B&W headphones will be demoted to commuting gear.

I notice the backs have two screws, anyone take these out and get the back cover off? If so, what change in sound?

The Alara has a different and it looks like a cheaper surround (material, construction) wonder if the driver from one to the other would yield what results?

Congrats on pulling the moneytrigger.
Are your B&W the P3, 5, 7, or 9?
No worries, as the Quads sound nothing like those.
Day and Night.
Black and White.
Useless to try to evaluate the Quality of the Quads sound by comparing them to the B&W.
Thats a fail.
The Quads have more midrange then all of those combined, and that is a good thing.

I have the P5. Enjoyable in their own way, but got the Quads instead of the P9. Although very Good (P9) I want to move away from b&ws sound signature to something else.

You made a wise choice.
The P9, is a warm sounding, low mid bloated, overpriced piece of orange leather, that has no micro detail retrieval.
The Quads are a unique sound, a midrange to die for, and have a way of presenting music that is unique to their engineering.
You can't by a better headphone at this price, you can only buy one that has a different sound, that might be as good.
The Ananda is as good, but, its like comparing Red to Black.
Both are colors, both are unique, but they are so different.

How about the sensitivity of the Quads? Are they fairly easy to drive?
A friend is making a buzz about Tidal Masters, and I'm going to try it out for a month or two.
Is the Audioquest Black with 1.2vrms output good enough to drive the Quads from my phone?

The danish importer have them on sale, so i couldn`t resist . 2999 Dkr. = 450 USD. Curious to hear how they compare to my Stax SRS-3100 (and all my other headphones)

Any Links/names would be appreciated?

Might be temped! :smile_phones:

Lucky you. I just checked if it is an EU wide offer, but unfortunately not. The supplier doesn’t ship to NL, so I guess I’ve to await another opportunity.
