The Q701 does seem to have cheap construction.  It is entirely plastic and feels like a toy a compared to the aluminum and magnesium AD900.

It may look cheap, but how many times have you heard about a person having a Q701 or K701 break on them? Almost never.
I could probably fling them halfway across the room and not have them break.

Many people say a headphone is cheap or the build quality is no good, but haven't used it long enough to know if it will really break on them or not.

You should take a look at the build quality of the HD-598 compared to the Q701. When you take off it's pads it feels like a Children's toy.
Drilling a hole into it for a recable took like 1 sec because the plastic is so ultra thin.

I think the Q701 is built very well and better than most headphones at this price change.

They could fix the "scuff" marks on the cables though.

I'm looking for an Amp and DAC (All-in-one or separate) under 300$ for my Q701. What would you guys recommend? I've been thinking about O2+ODac. Is there anything better i can get for that price?

Also, I am using the fiio E11 to amp them at the moment and the DAC in my Imac 2011, will i hear a big sound difference if i upgrade my Amp and DAC?

Does anyone else feel that the Q701 is too small for your head?  My pair is extremely tight and constantly exerts upward force on the bottom of my ears because it doesn't want to stretch enough.  I also have pain around my temples from the ear pads and pain from the headband (both of which I believe are exacerbated by my large head).

Yes, I feel the same on Q701, and especially from the headband. Seems like Q701 cannot stretch enough for big heads.

How do I remove the cable?

Firmly press the black button on the headphone end of the cable and pull

It does require quite some force on mine, but nothing too harsh

does anyone know a amp that would help imporove the q701 for £75, becuase im not sure what to do, send £75 on an amp, or sell my Q701 and get the Philips X1.

What do you mean by "improve?"

If your not liking the sound, I wouldn't expect an amp to change or fix it.

Magni/Modi.

You'd be hard pressed to find a better amp/DAC combo for $200.

@ OperatorPerry, It depends on the output level of your source, my source is ODAC (max output 2V) for which I use standard low gain for Q701 on mains power. Might need lower gain from such a source on battery power. Best read the O2 blog to get it from the horse's mouth.
