Hey guys. Just bought my first akg q701 and it was NOS. one thing o notice compared to my sennheiser is that the pads are really stiff. Is that normal?
That is odd, the stock pads in good condition are not stiff.
I've always thought the Q701 pads were a bit stiff. And the headphone has very little clamp so the pads never really compress, at least if you have a small head like mine.
Compared to the HD650, the HD650 pads are softer and the headphone has more clamp and actually compresses the pads when worn.
Today I breathe new life into my old Q701 that I haven't used in years. Actually, I never used it much other than gaming. The sound was good but the uncomfortable bumps and constant cracking at every move made me want to pick any of my other headphones over it. Took it apart and used plastic grease on all the joints in the gimble, this greatly reduced the cracking, resoldered the wires to they sit better and not touch, replaced the bumpy headband with a K701 headband and put Brainwavz hybrid on it. It's like a new pair of headphones. Now I regret not having done this earlier, I finally enjoy these.
mans can you do like a tutorial on how to do this?Today I breathe new life into my old Q701 that I haven't used in years. Actually, I never used it much other than gaming.
