Man Q has really gone in the toilet in the last 3 years. It went from being a serious mag about "Quality" music to Brittain's answer to the watered down, suck-ass-let's-put-Clay-Aiken-on-the-cover Rolling Stone, celebrity gossip-rag, flavor-of-the-month publication. Just like American music mags have been struggling to find their identity in the last 5 years (Are we pop? Are we trying to appeal to a wide People-magazine audience? Or, are we real arbiters of what is really "good" in modern music?).

This is a list designed to entice and placate younger people unfamiliar with the whole history of rock music. Only one Beatles album on this list? Come on...

Definitley Maybe as the BEST? You've got to be KIDDING! It's practically outrageous....

Oasis, Radiohead, Sex Pistols in top 5........give me a break. There are many on that list that should be a lot higher than where they are placed.........Pink Floyd, Roxy Music, Elton John, The who, etc. I can't believe Dexys Midnight Runners even made that list. Where the hell is Sgt. Pepper and the White Album? Where the hell is U2?

blue lines is the only massive attack album that made the cut... *sigh*... oh well, it is sort of good, usually it gets no attention and everyone just blabs about mezzanine all the time

this is a pretty sad list

Oasis #1? WHo are they kidding? and screamadelica is higher on the list than Dark SIde of the Moon. That completely destroys the integrity of this list for me. I apreciate the diversity of sound and style that screamadelica showcased, but it was inferior to the classic rock and trip hop / dance that inspired the album. The songs are overly repetetive without being compelling enough. Dark Side of the Moon on the other hand, was a revolution in production and refined the idea of a concept album. Personally, I would throw OK Computer to the #1 slot because it is a culmination of a lot of the elements of british rock that preceded it while still being creative, technical, evocative, and emotive. It would be nice to see David Bowie's Low replace Ziggy Startdust which is lackluster in comparison.

Sad it is. Goodbye Yellowbrick Road, and Physical Graffiti were both in the top 5 last time I checked their list. I hate to see classic rock slide down any lists. I really don't understand the quite universal praise that Urban Hymns gets over there. I find it "not rocking enough." I do like seeing the Kinks on the list. I don't get the Prodigy album at #29 - I have it, but I'm not impressed enough by it to put it on a 50 best of list. It's good to see modern music on this list, but I'm surprised that they didn't get carried away with the trendy stuff of today cos they usually do.

I disagree with this list completely. Oasis at #1? I heard one song of theirs and was so disgusted by utter lack of tallent that I have NOT listened to them since.

Pink Floyd DSotM is one of the best albums EVER, and I think it should have been placed higher.

Then again, these kinds of lists are impossible to determine because music listening is such a critical and a "IMHO" kind of topic.

Yeah, your right, but they didn't even use any common sense here.

Hmmm... Some very good albums there... Not too many bad ones... but jeesh the ordering seems pretty far off and there are a ton of exclusions.

Personally I think that any list of British albums is incomplete without Massive Attack - Mezzanine, Portishead - Dummy, in addition to some of the other albums already mentioned.

Also the Oasis thing is just unreasonable. While I hold them in a fair amount of contempt, I think that even their fans would agree that they were just a light, poppy group... Maybe they deserve a place on the list but number one... gag.

The Verve thing bothers me too... Do they seriously think that the Verve will stand the test of time? I doubt it.

That said, I'm happy to see Massive Attack in the 10 spot... even if they did pick the wrong album.

I thought there would be quite a lot of opposition

Robbie Williams made the list but no Jethro Tull? Are they insane? And if "Unhalfbricking" is there, shouldn't "Liege & Lief" be there too?
