I'm using the largest tips that came with the q-JAYS and they are too small to seal.

When I press the tips in gently with my fingers, I get tremendous bass and greatly improved mids. I think I'd love these IEMs if I could find tips that seal.

What tips fit the q-JAYS?

I've seen images of double flanges. That might be a great choice for my ears but I need to know what brand tips fit the q-JAYS.

Thanks for any help.

This is hardly an immediate solution, but if you are willing to wait, JAYS is planning to release their own version of foam tips, which supposedly help with seal and isolation.

Thanks Peter.

I've gone back to a pair of cx-300 for now. They sound much better but I can tell the q-JAYS perform very well when they seal.

After close examination, it looks like the largest tips on the JAYS are about the same, or just a touch smaller, than the medium tips on the cx-300.

This seems like a gross design error to me.

Someone posted an image of a set of q-JAYS with double flanges. If I could find the person who posted that pic, I'd love to ask how they did the double flange mod.

Well, here's that someone and an answer:

Are those Etymotic Bi-flanges that you've put on there?

No, actually it's the Shure tripleflanges cut down to biflanges. But however, the original biflanges should work with the q-JAYS, too, as already stated in the review.

Remeber that the q-JAYS are canalphones that really have to be worn inside the ear-canals and not just where you enter the canals. If I put my q-JAYS inside my ears, they fit quite plain and don't stick out of my ears. Perhaps you have to push them in a bit more.

Are you sure you're inserting them far enough? The q-JAYS, unlike the d-JAYS are suppoed to be IEMs. If when inserted they stick out more than a millimeter or so then it's not really in far enough. Otherwise I would wait for the foam tips.

I'm not positive but they won't go in any further. I've tried the different sleeves and the best ones are the largest ones. I can get them to seal if I hold gentle pressure on them with my fingers. When I do this, they sound phenomenal.

I've gone back to the Sennheisers but it would be nice to get these to work. I'm going to try some Shure sleeves.

If you are saying that the Sennheiser CX300 sound better than the q-JAYS, there is definitely something wrong.

I just A/B'd them and I almost vomited when I heard the CX300 again.

I think it's fair to say, something is wrong.

Yes, cx-300 sound better generally. The q-JAYS, even unsealed, have more detail but the cx-300 sounds more balanced in every other way. If I use the largest sleeves and hold the modules just right, the q-JAYS sound really good, even a little better than the cx-300. They open right up and provide nice midrange and detail.

I've had the modules so far into my ears, they are not visible when I look in the mirror. I don't think it's a matter of not having them in far enough. Something is weird with the fit. They unseal themselves after 10~30 seconds. It's quite annoying.

I should mention that swapping left and right modules helped a bit. They will remain sealed (they pop when I pull them out) for minutes at a time but they still require that I hold them to get the best sound.

Something is weird with these IEMs. I wish I could figure it out because I can tell they have good potential.

I can't go around with my finger tips pointing the modules. I'd look ridiculous.

By the way, I really appreciate the help in this thread. Thank you.

I wouldn't discount the possibility that you may have a defective pair. If the sound is only marginally better than the CX300 even with a good seal, there is still something wrong. It should be a night-and-day difference between the two.
