This is my first post here but I have used this sight as a great source of information. I am replacing a pair of Shure E2c's that have finally crapped out and am looking to upgrade a little. With my budget I have narrowed it down to the Q-Jays or Super.fi 5 pros. My musical interests are varied from Rock to classical and what I like is a balanced natural sound from my headphones. Isolation and comfort are important as well, as I travel a bit and like to use these on airplanes. I'm sure both these products provide a quality experience but any thoughts from users would be appreciated. Thanks

If you can find a store near you where you can give them a try, just try them and follow your heart. If not, go for the Q-Jays as you listened to a variety of music. Because super.fi are perfect for rock for its quick response and just-right quality/quantity of bass ,but too "dry" for classical music.

In fact, considering SQ, look, comfortability, price, and spectrum for genres of music, I would say that Q-Jays are the best unampped IEM I've listened under $200.(I tried SF5, UM2, ER4P, Q-Jays)

Funny I was going to post this same thread. But I guess you beat me to it! I was looking at both for some time now. The EBs are my other pick to. The low profile, duel drivers of the Jays are also very favorable to me. But having owned the UE Super Fi. 3 and loved them I find it hard to stray away from them.

q-Jays is much more comfy and sleek in design.

I had er-4p, q-Jays, SA6, Triple-fi.

Except Triples's SQ (top end IEM for the price) q-Jays are very accurate and fun, eventhough I sold them to another member since I didn't want to have 4 IEMs.

You will not regret buying the q-Jays if you get the deep and perfect seal. I prefer foamies for the q-jays!

They are crazy detail and smallest IEM in the world, they are all arounder for every genre!

If I didn't get the Triples, I would have kept my q-jays for long time.

Go for it!

Thanks guy's I think I'll try the Q-Jays. I know both probably sound good but I have been listening to more jazz than rock latley so the added detail of the Q-Jays will probably suit me better. Also coming from a dynamic driver like the E2c's I think I would like to try an armature type and see how I like it. Thanks again.

Alcedine thanks for the post I've been itching to find more info on this but
seeing that all opinions are subjective. I will have to conclude on my choice on wether to get the UEs again or try the Q-Jays. Ether one will be a step up from the UE 3s that I had!

I visited Jays website forums and saw a lot of comments on filter replacement. Does anyone have experience with this? I don't want to be changing filters every week which would get pretty expensive at $2.50 a pair.

When I first bought them, I had to replace the filters after only 2 days and I was ANGRY. But then, as I experimented with different eartip sizes, I found that there are many ways to wear the Q-jays: foamies, small eartips that make a good seal DEEP in your ear, or large eartips that make a good seal that isn't so deep inside your ear canal. I was doing the small eartip fit at the time. I switched to the large ear tips, and the sounstage dramatically improved (very dramatically), and I haven't replaced my ear tips ever since. I also make a point to pour water in and out of my ear when I shower, so that might help, I guess.

Also, something to keep in mind: don't wear them within 30 minutes of showering. Or else, you can be pretty sure you'll have to replace your filters right then and there.

Anyway, so long as you use common sense, you can really minimize the filter problem, though everyone is different, and ymmv. I recommend starting with the largest ear tip, and working your way down to the largest one that will fit your ear. It may feel awkward at first, but it really does help in the long run, and it becomes very comfortable once you're used to it.

Also, there has been at least one case in which I thought I needed to replace the filter, but, just to check, I laid down the earphone for an hour, and when I put it back on, the sound was back (presumably because the filter got wet and was blocking sound, and leaving it alone allowed it to dry up again).

what filter? In the Q-Jays? This is the first time I've heard of this. Are the filters exposed in some way? Please tell me that the filters are not a necessity!! I really do want them but if I'm going to have to replace filters from time to time I just might jump back on the UE boat!

The filters are not needed but are recommend by JAYS, since the q-jays need a lot more more on-board filtering then any other IEM, you will get one pair in the box.
