I'm going to be getting a new portable FM radio (a fixup modified SRF-S84) and was wondering if I should try out the Senn PX200's or stick with my trusty Sportapros. I've always had good luck with them for a good warm sound without needing bass boost (although they handle it well). I'm wondering how much of an improvement in sound I can expect with this radio and with my powerbook. I prefer the sound of the Sportapros to my MX400's when paired with the current radio I have (an SRF-M35, unmodified). It has a better soundstage with the Sportas..

So, what should I do? Spend another $50-60 or just stick with the ol' standby's? I gotta admit, the PX200's would look alot cooler, but if they don't sound as good, then I won't make the jump..

Spend the $$ and get the PX-200's. They are more efficient than the Sportapros and more detailed too.

When I discovered Porta Pros (same as sporta-pros) I thought they were fantastic. I still think they are great but the boomy bass rolls off the highs to the point where I couldn't say they were articulate headphones.

After my ears got adjusted to PX-200 sound, I know longer use my Porta Pros. Many complain about having to get the PX-200's to fit "just right" to fully realize their potential but it doesn't seem to be a problem for me.

I have found a great, low cost sound in a portable if you don't want to fuss with an amp.. I mainly only listen to cds so I have a cheap Sony C-EJ360 player matched with PX-200's with the bass boost on level 1 (of 2) and it sounds pretty darn nice! The bass heaviness of many of the Sony CDP's seem to bring out the best from the PX-200's. There you go, for the budget-minded. CDP + headphones for $100. I'd say, for that kind of money there is no better combo for that kind of sound.

hmm. the px200's sound MUCH different than the koss lineup, so keep that in mind the first time you listen to them. that doesn't mean that they're worse, but it is gonna take some time to get used to the senns. i don't have the portapros, but i do have KSC35's, and it just depends on the music im listening to as to which cans i prefer. the senns have a great midrange with well balanced bass, but they sound thin and weak in direct comparison w/the kosses. the kosses are definitely easier to just pick up and listen casually.

also, i didn't see anywhere in your original post that you need the isolation that the px200's offer; maybe you should consider the px100's instead which wont be such a drastic change from your portapros. i've never heard them, but everyone who has a/b'ed them with the px200's says theyre much more punchy and koss-like, but are still much more detailed than their koss counterparts. and you'll still be getting the awesome PX series styling
