So, last weekend I went to the Head-Fi London meet. I confirmed that the PX200 which I didn't like very much was shorter than the PXC250 which I do like. Shorter meaning that the headband didn't extend as much.
I ought to say that it's very clear that the reason I didn't like them was because the headband wasn't long enough. With the headband fully extended, the the cups just go over my ears. If the PX200's fit you well, then move the cups slightly upwards and 'enjoy' the bass-heavy, treble-less sound. This is what I was getting. If you PX200 owners are fully extending your headbands at this moment and wondering 'just how big is this guy's head?' the answer is VERY.
I think the smaller your head, the better you can enjoy these phones. When placed in the right position (as I can do on with the PXC250) they don't sound that bad at all.
So I apologise for misleading some people due to my anatomical incorrectness. It's official. The purple monster (with small head) approves.

...Then why don't I?

Come on PX200 lovers, what am I doing wrong here?

It's a bit of a design flaw of Senn's isn't it?

Yeah, I found that they cover my ear and fit on my head three clicks down. They do sound better more "up" as you mentioned.

I'm not sure of my head-size, but at 13 I had a riding helmet that was 6-7/8. I thought it was tight, but it flew off the first time I fell off a horse, and I still ended with a bad concussion. Hmph. I'm sure my head is a tad bigger now though. Perhaps 7 and something.

Yeah, that's what I'd like to know. The position of my PX100s makes little difference in the overall sound. Shift it a little back and it loses a little bass and detail, shift it forward and the treble peers out a little more and the bass impact comes back with the detail.
Duncan, what's gonna be part of the sell off? I might just be interested That is, if the peanut gallery is a viable destination

Almost definetly the ETYs... Grado SR125, and Sony MDR-F1 to begin with...

back on track, is the moral of the story here, that the PX200s DO have a treble? I find them very dark, with an unnatural bump in the top of the bass / bottom of the midrange?!

Ok lemme describe how they sound best on my ears...

If I wanted, I could get them to cover the entire ear, but I start getting more treble that way, about 4 clicks down and forward. If I wear them like Grado-sized supra-aural phones, they sound more normal. A bit dark, and lots of bass, but fun for portable phones. - in order to wear them that way, they no longer cover the earlobe.

That's what I mean.

edit - Ok, I think I'm understanding what you mean now. I didn't get the sarcasm at first. Ok, the px200 fits me at two clicks down. But it doesn't sound so good, and they'll also ride up if I wear them that tight. At three clicks down, they're comfy, stay where they should, and sound good too. They still fit at four clicks down, but go a bit too forward - I tried that once because I was having a big-hair day.

more editing to avoid triple-posting - The "Supra-aural" fit doesn't take them all the way to the top of my ear. I just tested. It seals off my ear from the beginning of the lobe, to the complete back of the ear, to the curvy bit that sticks out before you get to the top of the ear. Oh screw it.

So for you guys with big heads, you should all protest to Sennheiser!
