So after 5 years of use (and maybe some abuse) my PX100s bit the dust. Apparently some sort of wire has come disconnected in the plug. Is there any thing I can do to remedy said problem or am I needing to shell out some money for new portable headphones? Are the PX100 IIs worth upgrading too or should I just buy a new set of PX100s? Any other suggestions for foldable portable headphones in the $40-60 range?

I just got the PX200 II's . while a nice set of portable cans.... The single cable with the volume control are very nice. But I still like my PX100's better. The PX100's seem to have more detailed sound and are more comfortable for long listening.

Give the PX200-II some burn in time, and let the headband adjust more to the size of your head. The sound really opens up in detail after burn in, especially the lower end and detailing. Not so much a drastic change as a very effective refining. I'm confident you might like the PX200-II at least as much. I tried out an original PX100 pretty extensively recently, and I don't think the PX100 came anywhere near the 200-II, except for having more bass(which was also a good deal muddier). But it depends on your tastes. The 200-II are much closer to being neutral than the warmer 100 imo.

5 years of use and abuse out or portables is pretty good. Treat yourself to new PX100s.

As for the PX100-II vs the PX100, unlike the 200 vs 200-II I've heard they're really similar, seems to be mostly a difference in a bit of warmth or something. Haven't heard the newer 100s myself though. Keep in mind the second generation is also better built.

portapros maybe? Although not nearly as "foldable" as the px100s.

I'd try the PX100 II's.

I am under the impression that the PMX100 uses the same drivers as the PX100 except features a neck band. Is this true?

@ OP If I were you, I would bury those PX100s and move on.

I highly recommend Yuin G2 + parts express headband mod.

+1

The px100 are a good entry level phone but can be better in bass control, treble extension, and soundstage for the price. I happened to prefer my kramer modded ksc75's for half the price.
