so i'm Trying to get some decent sq while i listen to my music at the gym. Atm, i'm using pmx 100's w/ a Creative MuVo V100 2GB MP3 Player... my goal is to add some clean volume to this set up for when i go to the gym or go on long runs.... so my question is whether or not a cmoy will fit the bill, or do i have to get something a little better, for instance the pap2v.

my brother also has a newer 30gig ipod, which i can test using the new amp that i get, so it might be useful to get an ipod if the amp works well with one.

I like my little C&C Box+ amp for easy to drive headphones.
$109us www.headb.com

For harder to drive headphones i use my Z-Audio Mu
$99.00us http://z-audio.com/products.html

There are many small amps out there that can help.
I use IGrados and Sennheiser PMX100 alot for portable, as well as other headphones. There is some improvement with easy to drive phones, but i find more improvement with harder to drive ones.

If you ever plan on using IEMs (in-ear monitors) then go for the C&C Box+ over the Z-Audio Mu, because it has no hiss with IEMs,and also a gain function to put it in low gain for IEMs. (The Mu has no hiss at all with regular headphones, only a little with IEMs between songs).
The Z-Audio Mu has more drive though for harder to drive headphones, but a little bit of hiss with IEMs.

I havent tried alot of amps, but i find these good options in the $100 range, which isnt too expensive really. Z-Audio also has a $69 amp with only one chip in it instead of dual like the Mu, and maybe that is an option also.

If you're going to get an amp, you'd do better to get better cans too. But for use at the gym, I think you've got a pretty good setup already. More would just be more crap to haul around.

So how much would the C&C help with sq with my pmx 100's... cause those are the only headphones i'll be using them for. I have Grado 225's but i never use them anymore cause i have a good Home theater set up... now that i think of it, i should sell them lol.

is it worth 100 bucks or should i just stay cheap and get a cmoy?

thanks for the replys

For the gym, your concentration isnt going to be listening to the details in music.......you will be working out, so for that, stay with what you have. As far as the C&C Box+ making a difference on those headphones.....it makes a little difference, not alot.
The bass boost isnt needed because the px100 has enough bass, unless youre a total basshead. The stereo expander is nice though on some music. Its a nice compact amp. If its worth the money is up to you. I enjoy mine, but everyones different.
Its not night and day on those phones. You would need it for full sized cans that are harder to drive.

A CMoy would a good cheep intro to portable amps, but depending on the case & batts used, it could be a bit heavy (say one with dual 9v's).

I have a cmoy and PX-100s. The amp made absolutely no difference with the PX-100s. The amp made my Senn HD-590s sound better though.

See ya
