Hello everyone. I am bad about making long posts...so I have done a short and full length version
short***
I have been round and round, and finally have settled down on the grados sr225
I am basically looking for a sub $100 amp for my desktop with sr225's coming from a x-fi sound card for a newbie into the audiophile world. (I just realized CMoy's are battery powered and probably not the best desktop solution, BOOSTAROO MAYBE?!?! Morph was making some very selling posts about it...)
musical taste = indie/college rock 75%, everything else 25%...I'm really not very picky about music, but love an intense listening experience. If the setup really is as amazing as people say I will probably have to get some orchestral recordings
***
(btw that reviewer on amazon should get a job for grados as product description. His review left me wanting them right now...)
**********Full feature length************
Now, that brings me to amplification. I have found a pair used that are currently at $80, I am thinking I can get them for around $100 or a little more...I am quite happy with that, and it leaves me some room to get an amp.
My source is 95% of the time my computer, which has an x-fi fatality sound card (new card that started all this
) I have hd-555's atm, but the poor bass and newly aquired low range buzz is just not cutting it anymore, although I have loved these to death for almost 2 years now.
I'm getting a bit lengthy...I'm trying not to...What kind of amp should I be looking for? Amps, to me, mean it makes the source louder...but does it also increase quality? I can easily build a CMoy, and have found an extensive guide to do so. Is that a viable, cost effective solution until I go head first into this hobby?
