I have them and did enjoy them.

I do agree that an IEM can cause more damage to hearing vs a full size can. I developed tinnitus after extensive listening with IEM's. Always listened at reasonable levels and used quality equipment but I got it anyway.:frowning2:
Did the whole ENT specialist\MRI thing and they said that many people do irreversible damage to their hearing with IEM and\or earbuds due to the design. I haven't listened to my hp's or system in months but still have the ringing at times...sucks

I used to have bad tinnitus but now it's just an occasional brief loud ringing in either ear. Older, bright buds used to give it to me bad right after using them. I've learned the earphone sig I prefer and also won't give me ringing. Occasionally I'll go over board but usually subsides after a bit.

I'm sorry to hear that. Hopefully, it will become more beareable in time. Do you mind me asking why IEMs can do more damage than cans? I always assumed that if you listened at safe volume for short periods with IEMs you would be okay.

That's interesting that you found bright IEMs caused an episode of tinnitus. I wonder if it's because of the treble.

Yeah excess treble causes hearing loss. Went to a hip hop show a few years ago and was next to a speaker that only produced treble. My ear was ringing for a couple of days.

The ENT said it's the proximity of the driver to the ear and the fact that it's a sealed design, where in a full size can the driver is further away from the ear drum and it is not a sealed design.
He said he has patients in the teens with major damage to their hearing due to listening with IEM's at high volumes. I guess it's a big problem.
I always watched my volumes and was very careful but did listen for several hours a nite... after a few months developed the ringing and haven't listened seriously since.
I do have neck stress due to being in front of a computer all day at work (which I've heard doesn't help) but I blame the tinnitus on the IEM's.
Can't prove it but never had an issue while listening with my full size cans only when I got into IEM's.

Has anyone tested these while working out?  I won't put them up for much exertion hopefully but and I know they're not best used for it but... I'm a bit crazy with these things.  I hope my LG V10 can drive them properly, but if not I'm not averse to even bringing a small FiiO dac along while working out!

Firstly, welcome to Head-Fi!

Second, in my opinion, I wouldn't work out with the IEM500, mostly since it is discontinued.  I'd like to preserve the IEM as best as I can.

Cheers, and again, welcome!

So I managed to get my hands on a pair of these IEMs thanks to a Canadian friend. I was wondering whether anybody has some after market tips recommendations and could tell me how they affect the sound. Thanks.

Comply Tips if you want foam.

SpinFit CP100, Spiral Dots, Penon Audio Tips, and Trinity Audio Kombi Tips are some of my favorites. There are others but these four will give you a great foundation to work with - you should find a very good fit if you try these out since all have different to very different features between them. As for how the sound is affected, try them out on your own since the way the sound is affected to me may not be the same exact way the sound affects you. Let us know when you get them in and what you experience!

Hope this helps, and good luck!

Thank you for the recommendations. Which tips would you recommend to try first to tame the highs a bit? I like bright earphones generally but I find the Puro can be a little "shrill" with some vocals. My only criticism of them actually.

Wow I was a bit bored and started to dig through my stack of IEM's and saw these and decided to give em another spin. Have to say these are way better than I remember them. I must have been on a serious bass kick at the time as these sound very good. Think I will use them for a couple days and see how I like them on the train and at work.

I agree, I sold off half of my IEM collection but kept these. There is something about them that appeals to me and I still listen to them occasionally.
