Budget - Up to 800$ CAD
Source - FiiO E17k Alpen 2
Requirements for Isolation - Needs to be closed
Will you be using these Headphones in Public? - In public and at the office
Preferred Type of Headphone - Full Sized
Past headphones - Sen 598, V-Moda M100
Preferred Music - All genres
Location - Canada

I'm looking to upgrade from my current V-Moda M100. They sound ok for electronic music, but sound really weird for a lot of other genres. Its hard to really pin point what it is I don't like about them, but they just sound muddy to me, and very claustrophobic when compared to my old Sennheiser 598.

I listen to all genres, but I'd like a pair of headphones that can handle orchestral stuff better, I want the sound stage to be bigger (as hard as that is with closed, hence why im willing to spend more) and I'd like it to be light and comfortable to wear all day long (they will be used daily at work for years to come).

Options I'm considering but unsure about:
Beyerdynamics DT770, T70, T70P, T5P
Fostex X00, TH610

Thanks!

I just got the Aeon Flow Closed Today, and i feel that you could add these to your short list, based on your listening need's, criteria.

As compared to your V-Moda's, you'd lose the big bass, but you'd gain in overall sound quality, in direct proportion to what you lost in bass response.
These are not bass lovers only headphones.
They are definitely created for those who want balance and clarity and enjoyment.
Quite good noise canceling also, and easy to drive.
Im using a Repert Neve RNHP headphone amp that is being fed from a Marantz CD drive, and its working magically, for the most part.

I find the AFC lean sounding with lower treble lift. How does the HD660s compare with AFC?

Off the top of my head I can think of:

Campfire cascade $800 is an option, also very bassy though.

Sony mdr1am2 $200-$300 are more balanced than the vmodas, and much more comfortable.

Meze99 classics $310 are great if you dont mind the aesthetics.

Focal Egelia $900 was just released and looks very very promising, havent heard it yet, might buy it someday though.

Edit:this is in US, sorry, so only the meze 99 and the sony work.
