any instrument? then the most INSANE solo "instrument" has got to be the human voice.
an english metal/industrial/punk/whatever band called silverfish was fronted by a girl singing/squealing like a distorted guitar... if anything solo-wise is more "insane" and "psycho" please don't let me hear it

Some of the Ritchie Blackmore solos on the Deep Purple "Made In Japan" live album are phenominal as are the Ted Nugent solos on " Double Live Gozo"
the live "Stranglehold" is awsome as is "white buffalo"
I think the only way you know how good someone really is is to hear them live
no extra takes ,no overdubs,no post recording added effects
