Looking at the many (fantastic) pics of portable rigs I'm kind of wondering if noone has ever had any problems with the dock connector solution for getting a line-out?
I'm "the guy with the bag", ie I'm almost always carrying a messenger bag or such, and usually try to stuff my portable rig in there while listening on the move, amp and all. A couple of times I've had problems with the line-out dock with sound dropping out on me. It seems that it's been under "angular" pressure from the bags walls, enough to loose the connection on some pins. It works flawlessly otherwise and there's nothing wrong with the dock itself. It's just that the connection of the dock line-out solution seems a bit fragile to me.
I was thinking of making a box that would be about as long as my 2gen nano and the dock connector together that would fit the nano *and* the connector snuggly (a bit like a long, stiff silicon case to the shape). Could be out of metal or stiff plastic - whatever would be the easiest to work with to someone without the right tools and experience, such as myself. Another more low profile solution could be to perhaps glue a stiff plate on either side of the connector itself, a bit longer than the connector, to secure it better. This would make it a bit inconvenient if one chooses to get a new iPod later on, though.
Has anyone else had a problem with the dock connectors? That is, not a specific product but rather the concept itself: the fact that you have a long, relatively "heavy" object (that is the iPod) to a light, relatively long connector making the connection fragile when under "angular" pressure. Any other, easier solutions?
