Agreed for the power. Pimeta and dynalo don't cut it for example (even if the dynalo is a bit bright, not enough voltage swing). Best match I've heard to date is with a DIY RKV mkI. Plenty of voltage swing with this one

For DIY, I'd try the M3, probably with the AD8610 as opamps, buffers deeply biased in class A and high voltage supply.

My Raptor does an excellent job of driving the K340's. The soundstage is huge and the imaging within is very precise. Its a very musical combination.

Sorry to revive old thread, but what do you think is the best opamp syngerny for the M3 when pairing with K340's? 8160 or the 627/637 combo?

I haven't heard the 8610's but when I heard a M3 with the 627's, it just didn't have that synergy. In contrast, the Hornet, though underpowered, had a wonderful sound signature with my K340's. For my M3, I am going to use AD843's since I hear they impart a nice warm signature to the sound, which would complement my K340's.

I dont know, but i found the 637/627 combo quite lovely. I felt it made my k340's sounded detailed, while maintaining a lush midrange. Ive heard the ad8020 opamp in a mint and i thought it sounded detail yet it was a little harsh and thin. Granted, i havent heard the ad8010 or ad843 on the m3, but i would suppose that they would sound somewhat similar. For full bodied music, i would go for the 637/627 combo and for detail and quickness, i would choose the ad opamps, 8010 or 843.

I find the 637/627 more detailed than the 8610....but the sound signature matters more to me.

I found the 627/637 opamps very detailed, but more like an articulate kind of sound. I would describe the sound as being in a wealthy ballroom surrounded by rich wealthy people. Whereas, the ad8010 or ad opamps accentuate in the highs, and maintains a very tight low end, but does not fill in the low end quite as nicely as the 627/637 does. I would describe this sound like being in a headbangers ball where the detail is there, but quick and fast and makes you want to rock and jam out. It is also important which headphones are paired up with which opamp. For example, i do not like the grados with the 8010 opamp. Too harsh sounding for my tastes.

Yeah, no doubt that the 637's were detailed, but overall, I felt that it gave just more of what was already there without really improving on what I felt was lacking. Tubes helped in this matter, adding some warmth without sacrificing detail. The 637's had the detail, but felt very neutral to me in terms of sound signature.

And I'm now 1/5th of the way to Headphoneus Supremus!
