I've had these headphones for a while now. Just recently, inserting the foam eartips into my right ear is quite painful. It's been about a week now and I still get this pain when I fit the tip into my right ear. Doesn't happen with my left ear and it goes in forther.

The foam tips are the only ones that provide half decent isolation. Everything else is pure crap. But even with the foam ones I still hear the high pitches squeak of wind going past my ears.

Should I use them more so my ears grow to fit the tips, or should I let my ears rest until my right ear stops hurting again, or should I get new IEM's because the Ety's don't suit me and my right ear is just ****ed forever?

You should probably quit wearing them until you can have your doctor check out that ear.

The problem is NOT the er-6i - it is the smallest universal-fit IEM on the general retail market. It's either a wax buildup prob. in your ear, or possibly an insertion-technique problem. Yes, get a professional to take a look at both ears.

i cant wear the foamies at all because they are too sore to wear for even seconds. The triflanges are better though. They go deeper in my ear and they are reasonably comfy.

I agree by saying that you should see someone about this problem because its one ear but not the other. Im in my early teens and my ear canals probably just arent big enough for foamies yet.

Please do not laugh at my comment, and I am not trying to be condescending either. When using the foamies you are aware you are supposed to roll them while squeezing so as to reduce their size. Then you insert them and they will expand thus blocking the outside noise. By the way you may want to se a physician to have him/her check your ear. Otherwise go to a pharmacy and purchase one of the various ear wax cleaner kits, follow the manufacturer/pharmacist instructions.

The wind noise will be heard regardless of the tip used. The same occurs when you use ear plugs at noisy sites.

Finally you could contact Etymotic to send you samples of their smaller tips, these may work better with your ear canal size.

ah thank you

I don't know about seeing a doctor because I don't feel any side affects other than when I'm trying to insert the eartips. When they are in, I don't feel anything either. And I think if I just leave it, the ear should return to normal. I don't believe playing around with a few Ety eartips has caused permanent damage to my ears.

What happened was - I've gotten comfortable with the foam tips until they got dirty, and I had to order some more. During that period, I was playing around with all the other eartips. When I got the new foam eartips, I started having problems with my right ear. It's been happening for about a week now.

I heard that IEM eartips aren't supposed to be damaging to your ears, even with prolonged use. Is this true?

And is earwax known to cause health issues? I do get more earwax than most.

Is it possible your ear canals are different sizes? I know the flanges come in different sizes, how about the foamies? If you contact Etymotic and tell them you are having difficulty with the fit they will send you an assortment of tips. Good luck.

No, they can become contaminated (from sweat, dirt, etc) and cause an infection. eartips should be regularly cleaned and foam tips should probably be thrown away after 2 weeks of use unless you feel lucky or your ENT is blond and sexy.

>.< new set of tips cost freakin $25AUS for 3 - and the flanged ones suck. I don't know how much longer this can keep up.

BTW: What IEM's are cheap to maintain and easy to insert? As much as I love ety's, the impracticality may force me to change...
