My girlfriends mom asked me to scan in some old photos for reprinting/resizing. I've got an HP 2410 all-in-one, and I'm having a devil of a time getting the scanner to scan colors right. I'm just using the default HP program to scan. The preview looks fine, but when I actually scan it in the colors are terrible--skin tones are blueish purple, a blue striped shirt has become red, etc. I made sure to check that color inversion isn't checked, and it isn't--but for the life of me I can't get the colors to come out correct. Anyone have any pointers?

Ok, I've been able to alleviate the problem by turning off the "Scan at maximum pixel depth" option (i.e. my colors are once again normal). But is there no way I can keep this option? I mean, I realize I'm being anal, but I'd like to eke out every last bit of quality possible.

Forgive me if this all sounds terribly stupid, I don't do much photo scanning.
