Hi! I normally use my Intruder, but sometimes it's simply more convenient to take just a headphone. BUT: I ordered some Neutrik (or REAN) 3,5mm jacks, and they don't work on my smartphone! They won't "snap" when plugged in the headphone output of my Samsung S4.

The phone repair guy tried putting a new output in the phone, but it still wouldn't work. He said this is because a small ridge on the plug.

Some other plugs DO work, but now I have three unusable minijacks.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks, Daan

It's a well known issue with overbuilt/oversize plugs. I try to avoid large plugs for use with mainstream mobile devices because I always have my phones and tablets in protective cases, which is the more common issue instead of the jack specifically. DAPs that have cases available typically only have cases to protect against scratches, so they're relatively thin, but even then they actually leave a wide enough opening so that protrusion between the rod and the barrel would fit easily.

That said some phone/tablet cases leave a lot of room around the jack, and the one on my S3 works well with Sennheiser cables at least (3.5mm with a detachable 6.3mm adapter). Anything as thick as a Rean or that other popular 3.5mm plug (the round one with a curved barrel like an old Coke bottle), let alone ViaBlue and Amphenol, will not fit.
