problem with many IEMs: static discharge

I've owned several pairs of IEMs with metal mesh filters which result in static discharges, especially when it gets cold out (dry air + fleece).
Why haven't they fixed this?

The little foam covers on some of the original earbuds were probably used both for comfort and for static.  Seems to me there has been a fix for years an all you need is to buy some foam covers / Comply foam tips.
