Hi, I'm pretty new to headphones and planning to get my first Ultrasone, PRO 900 seems to be the best(within my budget), but I might not get to try it so here's my questions:
Would it be a waste if I'm not going to use it with an amp?
Am I better off getting a HFI-580 if that's how I'm going to use it?
Reason I say HFI-580 is I read that metal driver in more expensive models require long burn-in time, and I'm not sure how "good/bad" they sound new. Will the PRO 900 still be considerably better without burning in?

The pro 900 sound pretty "okay" without an amp, nice amount of detail. But if you do KeeS' mod (and technically void the warranty) it sounds quite good indeed out of an mp3 player. As for long burn-in, yes pro 900 have insane insane burn-in time, but doing Kees mod makes everything forgiving (you know it's forgiving when you think the studio headphone sounds great out of an mp3 player lol).

I would agree that it sound 'okay' w/o amp, but for me it sounds too chaotic for...detailed but things seems all over the place. But if youre new to headphones I would say 'go' to 900

besides its long burn-in like all ultrasone products its awsome
