how can i prevent it from cracking and splitting, i want to keep them under good care, i realized how i got my e500s to crack last time, it was because i had these tight pockets in my jeans and the heads bent real good a couple times on the wire...so it split on both of them right under the heads...but for the new set im not going to place them in my pocket anymore but just want to know how to take care of them...can i clean the wire with a moist paper towel if i got some dried sweat on them?? any suggestions? thanks!!

I thought the pockets were the culprit, but I had a pair of e2c's that I always stored in the circular container that came with the phones and they still broke after 6 months. It's probably also not weather dependent as I my first pair lasted from July-March, and the second one March-Aug. I wonder if it's the motion of putting them on that stresses that particular position. Anyways, I ended up just giving up and moving onto something else. I didn't know realize this was a problem on the higher end Shure's though.

I have been an owner of the shure e2c's for about 3 years. Within that length of time I've had them replaced 3-4 times (lost track). In all cases the reason for the return was wire cracking about an inch from the body of the earbud. I'm convinced this cracking is due to their exposure to sweat while they're tucked behind my ear. In response to this problem i started wear them differently. I wear them without tucking them behind my ear (how apple headphones fit). I have had my current pair for about 11 months or so and they have yet to show any sign of fatigue, while the previous pairs would crack within less than half of that time.

Off topic a bit but a quick question to cyberspider. Did shure give any trouble with the kramermod? All of my previous pairs were stock and my current pair is the first pair i have altered. I saved the tips to i can put them back in but one of the sides is kinda mangled. just curious

Nope, my RMA was about the cracked cable, so they didn't care about the kramer mod, since it does nothing to the cable.

Yes I know...Sorry..but it is relevant and does belong in this thread...what is the point of starting a new thread when the criteria matches this one?

Sorry to bump such a old thread but the same thing happened to both ends of my e3g.

Does anyone know if the newer IEMs shure makes have different wires? I don't think I'm going to buy another pair from shure if they continue to crack.

Overall, I'm really disappointed by shure... I've returned the e3g three times to them... THREE!! You could say they're responsible in sending new ones back, but I expected a quality item to not to be fundamentally flawed in the first place. The fact that you have to pay to send it back to them just rubs salt into the wound.
