Never.

The amp of such device would never be good enough to make an audible improvement over cd.

Perhaps a small sacd decoder with a digital out??

I'm going to be optimistic and say never too.
I don't see much point of a truly portable SACD player - it would defeat the purpose of it.

It would only make sense to do this if sacd actually catches on...

Biggie.

SACD is for audiophiles; most traditional audiophiles have speakers-- and PCDP's don't factor into that equation anyway. A PSACDP would have little or no demand. Most normal non-audiophiles couldn't care less about a good-sounding PCDP, let alone on that is both good sounding and has SACD capability.

Well, they already have portable DVD which includes DVD-A, so I predict some time within the next year (I.E. by September 2003) -- and that's being pessimistic.

i predict that once somebody comes out with a firmware of some kind that cracks the sacd so that it is readable/ripable in dvd-rom drives.. then it'll get super popular and sony will bitch about how much money they are losing.
