hi i posted this thread in the accessories forum but didn't get any help. can someone tell me what the stock power tube for the 336i is called? i want to say 6n13 or but i'm sure it's wrong. i like how the stock tube looks, sounds and i'd like to get 1 or 2 as a backup so i won't have to scramble to find one if this one breaks or fizzles on me. can someone tell me what type it is, and also where to purchase them? thanks

The original power tube supplied with the Darkvoice is a Chinese made power tube ( I can't recall it's odd designation ) and its equivalent is a 6AS7 or 6AS7G. The 6AS7 tube is also the coke bottle shaped type of tube and a lot easier to find than trying to hunt down the Chinese version. You should also note that as good as the supplied tube may be, the U.S. made NOS 6AS7's generally sound better because of their material and construction.

I prefer to use the NOS RCA 6AS7, you'll find there are other brands out there both new and NOS. It's been reported that the C wing ( SED ) 6H13C tube is quite a nice sounding power tube to use.

thanks, loweart, but i should've specified that i'm looking for the cheap stock chinese tubes that came with the amp. i've tried a couple 6as7's and 6080's couldn't hear a difference between them and the stock ones; not like i did with the 6sn7's.

Sorry, itchy trigger finger from me ! LOL !

I just went and checked my old boxes and found the original Chinese power tube that came with my Darkvoice 336i. It's marked at the base as a 6N5PJ. A quick "google" on this doesn't bring up a great deal that you can source on-line.

Mine's just gathering dust inside the packing box. I noticed that the Chinese version is a little taller than the NOS 6AS7 tubes.

Sorry I can't be of more help.
