I noticed the difference of my musical fidelity dac & tube buffer with the psu, and am now wondering how much difference a power conditioner would make to my sound. A guy at the local audio store mentioned how sears has a decent steel looking power strip for $30 bucks that's made like one should, but of course he also said I should go all out for the pricy power conditioners. What are your thoughts? Any suggestions for under a $100 bucks? Or will that make a difference? I have a Rotel 1056 receiver and Quad 22L speakers.

You could also try listening to music at odd hours (after midnight to before sunrise), esp if you live in a high rise apartment complex. With most household appliances in the building turned off at those hours, you should norice a significant improvement.

Yes, there have been quite a few threads about that phenomenon. I agree to that gear usually sound better at night, but I cannot tell exactly why.

Less back ground noise, more relaxed and focused listener, because of the glass of wine you've just had, et cetera?

However, I tend to go with the views that the mains are less polluted at those hours. Because, it has happened more than once that the sound changed character all of a sudden without any apparent reason: No change in the hardware and I didn't even get up from the sofa.
