If it wasn't a crop, I would have been pretty impressed with the kit lens.

Everything taken with the usual D90 and 18-200mm lens combination. Re-balancing and leveling done in NX2, cropping and cloud removal done in Elements 3.
 
All shots taken at f/14, ISO 100. This years display was earlier in the year than last time, so there was still a slight amount of visible light in the sky. However, since the moon didn't show this time it was easier on balance.
