I know little to nothing about speakers and proper room acoustics, but isn't having a carpet floor bad for the sound and aren't the speakers supposed to be in the center of the room?

Actually, carpet is considered much better-sounding than wood or bare floor, which would require heavy rugs to kill reflections. As far as speaker positioning, there's really no "supposed to be." It's experimentation and trial-and-error half inch at a time until things "click" for your tastes.

Where did you get your 701 recabled and was there other color options? You may want to send the Xin amp for power supply upgrades.

The picture has always puzzled me. I've no idea what coudl be powering so many sets of 2000-6000ohm headphones.

Unless its not really playing, and the picture is actually some sort of ad or part of an old movie. I've never seen the site that it came from though, so I could be totally off base.
