How does it sound? It must be more comfortable.
With all ports vented and the yellow dishcloth they became a midbassmonster :dt880smile:
with smooth treble and a nice midrange. The soundstage is also very good.

Sooner or later i will close some ports again and use a lighter mesh as damping material, but at the moment i´m enjoying the massive midbass.

Comfort is great. Finally my ears can breath.

Guys, is anyone tried using Acoustic Wool inside the Grado`s Cups? Still dampening the drivers' magnet with sorbothane or soft rubber, some sort.
What anyone thinks of that cup dampening with acoustic wool, would it allow more air to travel through the cup and also cancel the reverberation of high frequency?

I have a Turbulent Labs X driver incoming, along with an Earphone Labs DIY full setup.

I was torn about whether to start with a donor Grado, but then rationalized that I wanted to replace nearly every part, so I might as well start with the aftermarket parts I wanted.

I didn't find much about the Earphone Labs set, but it looks like the common Openheart design, which seems solid enough. I figured that any weaknesses would be no worse than stock Grado, and shouldn't affect sound quality regardless.

I already have a tri-wood Grado RS1x, so I wanted to try the full aluminum DIY model. I just wish it came in silver finish instead of black. I am tempted to sand it to silver, but I don't want to kill the anodizing.

I will be sure to let you all know about how things work out, and how it compares to the RS1x.

Gonna go ahead and ask here, since I've been looking around at a lot of places but really torn for choice.

Can anyone give me a list of reliable places for finding Grado cups, in stock, that won't massively break the bank? Willing to spend around $100 for them of course!

I really like the look of earphonediylabs mahogany cups, but I'm not sure if I should get those, as the headphones will be a pair of sr80e's that I got cheap off eBay, so maybe the "Alessandro Music Series" text is cheating? :p

My problem comes that everywhere I've looked has them be either a little over my budget (nothing against that, people can charge what they want of course), or not in stock! My other problem is that I live in the UK, but at this point I've accepted having to buy them from the US and deal with VAT and shipping costs.

I took a look of them but most of it was around $200, at least those that were in stock

You're right though, it was very nice! In the future I may try and get a hold of some of their products depending on my financial situation. I ended up going with the ones I linked, I'm pretty happy with them, especially with the cable I ordered. Just a case of using a dremel on them to try and fit my 3.5mm ports for the detachable cable mod...
