Hello all,

I got a B&K 747 SS tube tester in good condition for a real steal recently.

It arrived about week ago and I've most of my time since cleaning it out - I swear the previous owner must have been running a dust bunny breeding farm! Either that or he stored it in his garage for the past 30yrs with the cover open.

Anyway, now I'm curious - I know there are many members here with tubed amplification, but how many of us own tube testers?

Here's my baby, post-cleaning:

nah, it's condition isnt as great as my photo makes it out to be.

there are small scuffs/scratches all over the faceplate, some very minor rusting in the 'wells' of the faceplate screws and some streak marks left by the toggle switches on the aluminium-coloured portion.

but still, i love it in spite of it's flaws.

Anyway, how much did you get your TV-7 for? That (and the 600A/6000A) were initially my first choices, but the crazy prices kept me away.

Here's my three testers:

Hickok's most advanced and only solid state. Very big though.

Hickok 752A

Immaculate, but I don't use it because I don't like the reading scale.

Hickok TV-10B/U

I actually use this one the most because it is compact and fast.

Got lucky and only paid ~$220 on Ebay earlier this year. It was/is in pretty good shape. Having Dan calibrate it and work on it put the total price to around $350 total (Just like a knowledgeable Head-fi'er told me it would come out to).

Since I figured out (AGAIN) how to post pics, here's another:

wow - that's a pretty good price! ime, tv-7s usually go for >$300!

fwiw though, my B&K 747 set me back just $180 (incl insured shipping). the seller (an obvious newbie) had messed up his listing's title... in other words - his loss, my gain.

and it works perfectly too. the only part that isnt working is the 'on/off' indicator light. the B&K parts catalog lists this part as 'Neon Bulb w/100k Resistor' - anyone know where i can pick one up?

www.bktestequipment.com has parts for the older B&K test equipment. They also do equipment refurbishing. If you can solder, it's a good idea to replace the electrolytic caps, which you can get from them also. If you can't solder, it's a good idea to get the caps and have somebody else do the work.

I never tried or used the vibration test and I never attempted getting bulbs for that part of the tester, since I would have no tubes or whatever plugs in there.

Are there any tube testers that you can plug headphones in and actually listen for noise?
