i have been thinking about seeing if angstrom would make a $750 DIY amp design.. i thought it might be neat to have a trully really high end amp for us to build.. at first i was thinking that i would just see if i could get an amp from them next year for $750 (i'm broke for now).. then i decided i may pay that much just for the design.. now i am thinking.. what if some of us got together and paid angstrom whatever amount for the design of a DIY amp that would cost $750 in parts. i just thought it would be neat to have a TRULLY high end amp arround here that any of us with the willingness to save up for a year or two could afford. what do ya'll think? angstrom hasn't replied yet to my idea.... but the fellow i e-mailed is quite busy with niks amp.

EDIT!!! if it's to be paid for this year the most i can contribute is $200... much more than i should.

Why not donate that money to help the people working on the PPA project? Tyll from Headroom has stated that the PPA is already in the same class as the Headroom Max, and it's not even finished yet. I guess I'm a little skeptical of Angstrom; they seem to operate by adding really expensive boutique parts, rather than doing innovative engineering design. (I'm not bashing boutique parts by any means, but after building a couple of different DIY amps I've sort of realized that the circuit itself matters more than the parts, though the parts do make a big difference.)

i was hoping angstrom could design something trully innovative... anyway.. this is just an idea for now... it was that "research" part in angstrom resaerch that got me. but we'll have to see.. this will take some work to make happen if it is to happen.. and i never pictured the ppa as just.. waaaayyyy up there.. i know it's high end and all...but i was thinking about something just wayyyy high end.. and the ppa probably already has plenty of funding anyway.
howabout.. an angstrom refined ppa? i dunno.. ideas are greatly appreciated.

Companies like Angstrom don't need money to design a DIY amp. If they see the potential to make money on a DIY amp they will make the resources available to design and sell one. Sending them money to do so wouldn't be worth it since it might take many thousands of dollars to design one worthy of selling.
