I just received my portapro's today.
The PortaPro's Bass are way too extreme for me. It seems like the drums and other instumentals in the background cover up the vocals. It's incredible how much bass this thing has.. and I don't want that much.

Will burning them in help?
Or are they suppose to have an insane amount of bass?

They're very bass-heavy cans... it's doubtful burn-in will change that much (bass might tighten up a little, but the frequency balance probably won't change).

My Koss KTX-Pro use the same or very similar drivers, and I really don't listen to them anymore (it's just too much).

It's really too much for me now as well. I usually only use KSC-35's...

Really?
That's too bad.
I wish someone had told me this before I bought them. I don't think I can get a refund anymore, since I used a gift certificate on amazon. Well, I'll let them burn in overnight, and see how they work tomorrow. *Maybe* they'll sound a little more balanced.
Here's hoping...

Same here with the KTX-Pro. The bass is just plain excessive, even for a Beyer DT770 listener like me.

I got a pair of portapros and listened to them for a while and the bass got to me too. They did not last long and are on the way back for a refund. They lasted a day.

Normal setup: ER-4S/META42/D-5, D-EJ925/CHA47/ER-6, or KSC-35.

i've had them for a while now. they're still the cans that usually accompany my ipod. i do listen to quite a bit of hip-hop though. but i still like them for my jazz and classical and rock and ska and whatnot.

No one has mantioned this before, but portaPro's are great for watching movies (in whichever form you do it). The extra bass impact really makes them great for that (kind of like a subwoofer in the theatre

).
Plus, if you got them with a 50% discount, you can probably sell them for the same amount here on Head-Fi, as there is always someone who wants to try them.

I've mentioned it! I always use Portapros for movie watching, they work better than my Grados & KSC-35's. In fact I was going to mention it in my post before but forgot.

After burning them in for about 20 Hours, I took the PortaPros with me on my trip to Atlanta. And to my surprise, they sounded great! The insane bass wasn't so bad anymore, and I'm really starting to like the sound of it. It's more balanced throughout now. It was extremely comfortable, and I had no problems wearing it for about 2 - 3 hours.

Nice! That's great. I've been using them again as well and still like them a lot. My #1 favorite phones to drift into blissful sleep while listening with...very comfy and then don't get in the way at all.

I'm glad the burn-in helped. I was such a n00b when I got mine that I don't recall or didn't take note of any burn-in effects.

My porta pros work best not only with movies, but games too. Also, in noisy conditions, the extra bass of the porta pros come in handy in my opinion. With open cans, I find the bass the first thing to be hard to hear in noisy environment...

In quiet listening, I too find the bass on the porta pros too heavy though...

Only one problem with that: I do listen to old-school 80's hip hop sometimes, and unfortunately the bass with the KTX-Pro (and by extension the Portapro) is not only excessive but boomy too (particularly at higher volumes) and can wipe out midrange. Great for the beats, terrible for the voice of the guy/girl doing the rapping.

My Denon cans (AH-D950 and AH-D750) can be nearly as bass-heavy as the KTX/Porta/Sporta sometimes -- in fact they can be "I can feel it" thunderous on the low end, but the bass is ultra-clean, never boomy and rarely overwhelms midrange... that makes them a pleasure for listening to most studio stuff (will be looking for something better for acoustic/classical soon, however).
