Hi,

I have a 5G iPod (320 kbps AAC) with a soon to arrive Portaphile X3 and TurboDock & mini cable. I listen to Rock/pop/jazz with lots of acoustic music, and currently use UM1's. I love the isolation, and have been pleased with the intimacy of the sound; but I can find them a little flat and uninvolving.

I was thinking of trying out the UE SuperFi Pro5 or something different with the Senn HD-25 (with cable upgrade and velour pads). Any views on how these two compare in a portable set up?

I'm going to try the UM1's with my new amp, but is this more a case of the limitations of the MP3 format?

Thanks for any suggestions

Super.fi 5 pro is good if you like rock; nice bass levels, guitar is godly, and the drums are nice and tight.

Ok, I own Superfi.EBs and the HD25-1s. (I know, NOT the Super.fi Pros)

I know the Superfi.Pros are not the same as EBs... so I am not going to go into details of the Superfi's... but my Super.fi EBs sound really nice (I love the bass, so that's why I went with EBs). You have to like wearing IEMs though. The Superfi.Pro's should sound nice...I certainly have no trouble with the sound of the EBs (hey, I still own them and I don't intend selling them anytime)... The problem is I just get to a point with IEMs where I feel pretty uncomfortable wearing them. Also, they tend to work themselves out of a good seal from my ears, even while walking with them, just in general use. I have to keep adjusting them every few minutes to keep a tight seal which detreacts from the enjoyment. However, when used in the best conditions they work well, and it really feels like the music has been placed directly inside your head.

The HD25-1s I've had now for 2 weeks and I just love these things. They are built like they could stand a lot of abuse, and will last forever. The sound quality to me is of a very high quality. They look ok too, and are not 'expensive looking' phones to wear out on trains and such.. No one will guess how expensive they really are unless they are head-fi'ers themselves. HD25-1s provide a nice enough seal on the ear, it's nothing like IEMs do, but they do their job extremely well. Also the headband is 'split' so you can get a really nice fit on your head and they will not move unless you want them to. I prefer the feel of these over the Super.fi IEMs..it's simply just a comfort issue overall for me.

Hope that helps somehow
