i've heard so many mixed reviews here.. let's keep this pretty closely tied in with the topic, though. i don't want to spend $30 on new headphones, like some people suggest in other, similar threads. $100-150 is my range. i'll be walking to/from class a lot. i listen to a large range of music.. from stan getz to symphony x. durability is also an issue. i'd like to keep them in my pocket.. i'm looking to replace my big cans for convenient little ones while i'm on campus. i'm mainly looking at shure e3cs and ety er6is, although i'm open to similar suggestions. please try to keep in mind my guidelines, though. let's keep the discussion narrow.

do the shure e3c's have the same microphonic problem as ety er6i's? i mostly hear about that with the ety's. will i hear footsteps and microphonic garbage loudly with both of them? that seems to be the main issue.

are the e3s really more comfortable to most people?

which is more durable?

i'll be usin an ipod to play, so if that's an issue.. which ones would be easier to drive?

safety isn't really a concern here :P i pay enough attention not to get run over, and i don't ride my bike.. i walk rather slowly, and a lot of it is on campus where there aren't cars. i don't like listening to music and talking to people, so i'd take them out.

thanks, guys. this site is such a big help!

- When I tried the ER-6i's, I felt that cord noise was more of a problem than with the E3.

- Both are pretty comfortable. I would give a slight nudge to the E3s, but it's really a matter of what you're used to, so I wouldn't give this nudging much thought.

- The E3 is more durable by far, IMHO.

- Neither should be a problem in terms of being easily driven.

They'll make your co-ed classmates want you - approved by my girl, a trend scout and designer for www.stylemaven.com. You need a touch of style when you're cruising the campus

heheh.. style's fairly unimportant.

right now i cruise around with mdr-v6 headphones.. the ugliest pair of phones i've seen anybody wear, lol. i'm not too concerned with that.. i'm engaged and all.

thanks, though. i'm leaning towards the e3s because of durability and microphonic issues mainly. i've heard that they both sound pretty good, so either way i should be alright.

are these types of phones i'm looking at not really good for walking?

i've never tried them.. and sometimes what you guys have said make it sound like the footsteps will be all that i'll be able to hear, heh. and i'll be walking a lot.

I'd rather have a sealed headphone and hear my own footsteps than open and having to listen to everyone else's
