I'd really like to purchase a portable mp3 player at this time but don't know where to start. Initially I was looking at the iPod, especially for its size, but I hear there will be a number of new mp3 players on the market shortly so I'm hesitating on buying anything right now. For instance the Philips HDD100, or maybe some new Samsung or Toshiba mp3 player. I'm not really sure of all the news and information concerning future competitors to the iPod, so if anyone can point me in the right direction I'd be grateful. Is there an mp3 player that is worth waiting for? Thanks in advance.

Im in the process of getting one myself, but cant really choose between the iRiver iHP or the Rio Karma. For me those are the two best choices. The iRiver is only available with 10gb storage currently tho, at least outside Korea. The rio will hit the streets soon and comes in 20 or 40gb flavors.

The way I see it is that both of these have things they are better than than each other at. So which you want comes down to which of the features are most important to you. Also if u cant live with just 10gb then the choice is easy. The iRiver is tho reported to be coming with a bigger drive in the future but one would have to remember that the iRiver has a rather steep $ per GB price.

The underdog here is the creative zen, altho I percieve it as not being so popular, it is reported to have great sound and a very good price.

If you look on the net and in this forum you will find info about all these players. you can also take a look at www.dapreview.com

I'd say get either a Rio Karma, or a Nomad Zen NX. The Karma is small, is suppose to sound good, and has a good bit of features. The Zen NX is the best value [30GB for $270!], sounds GREAT, and has a ton of features.
