I'm looking to amplify my HD600's for primary use with my PC, and secondarily with a portable (not often). I've spent $200 on the headphones (I keep telling myself this is one of those "for life" purchases

) and I don't want to spend more than that on an amplifier. So far I am considering the Airhead and the Total Airhead, they look very portable and durable. Is this a good starting point?

Thanks in advance,

might consider a META42 built by JMT should be less than 200 by quite a margin.

i don't really have any experience but that seems to be a popular little amp and its not too expensive.

Here are examples of portable Meta's

Lextek's Meta42, made by JMT

MacDEF's blue Meta42 from KurtW

Pigmode's red Meta42 from JMT

get a Meta42! contact KurtW, JMT, Erix...who else is actively making amps right now?...theyre great guys, so shoot one a PM and enjoy!

there is an airhead in the For Sale forum i think, if you wanna save a few bucks maybe...

You could also consider the Porta Corda at $175 shipped. The new versionII is even better and has some interesting options like class A operation, external a/c power if you want it, and an option to shut off the power led. to save battery power.

I'm using mine with HD600's with Plainview recharagable 9v battery, running in class A with much better results than either Airhead or even Grado RA1!

thanks so much for these recommendations. A/C power is a MUST for me. I'll send out a PM to some people and see what happens! Any tips on where to find a Porta Corda online? Is this a consumer-grade production amp or a homebuilt?

Thanks
