So as it is fathers day in the UK very soon, my wife and children have kindly agreed to buy me a DAP - so now need to decide which one :)

What people recommend - don't want to pay silly money, would like it to be expandable, work with Tidal, spotify. My music collection is well over 3TB and always hard to decide what i want to take with me :) so larger storage capacities the better.

Do like the look of the Fiio x5 3rd gen and the pioneer xdp300r - good buys? or should i consider something else?

This is my first foray into a hi res player and will primarily use it travelling, aeroplanes and with a pair of Shure 846's. Music wise mainly RnB, Electronica, jazz.

Appreciate the recommendations.

Take a look at the Audio Opus #1, supports 2 micro SD's and in my opinion the sound is hard to beat for the price (but no streaming).

The XDP300R is a great player too, which has streaming capabilities.

thanks the opus is coming out similar money as the pioneer. Is the fiio not worth a consideration - some people seem to love it others dont?

Any views on the Onkyo dp-x1 - again thoughts seem to be mixed ;)

thanks

I am still in love with my Fiio X5 II. I haven't listened to the new one though. A friend of mine recently got the X5 III and loves it. The only negative with Fiio is dealing with software bugs/glitches although Fiio is always working on software improvements.
