Hi guys, Newbie here.

I'm by no means affiliated with the high end audio world but i needed a new MP3, headphones etc and my friend advised me not to go for walkman but instead  a sansaclip or a cowon J3 or something that can use flac files.

Now to business! I need a £150 max. (ideally around 100) around ear set of headphones. i liked bose AE2 but my friend says they're rubbbish

I listen to mainly Drum and Bass, things like london elek, high contrast, netsky, etc and other electric music
every so often i stick on a bit of led zeppelin, QOTSA, gorrillaz, cunninlynguists, everything from rap and hip hop to metal, and artists like The Sword. but only on occasion

They need to be portable, fairly durable but i look after my stuff so this isnt SO much of an issue.

Please help!!!

Buy the Sandisk Clip+. Not to use FLAC, as FLAC files take up too much space, but to have a cheap great player that you can add a 32 GB micro SDHC card to.

As for the headphone, imo you should consider the Sony MDR-V6, although the Shure SRH440 may be another to consider.
If you are willing to spend more, you might want to consider the Sennheiser HD25-1 mk2, however it may be above your budget.  The VModa M80 might also be too expensive?

The XB700 is an extra bass headphone. It is good if that is what you want. The Sony V6 and Shure SRH440 are studio monitors which sound neutral. You should try to listen to these. The XB700 is also huge, so many wouldn't consider it that portable. The Sony V6 is much more compact and folds.

Just by the number of positive reviews I've been reading on them, you might want to also look at the ath-m50. I believe that they are square in your budget, if now lower. You should check out some of the reviews, such as the headfonia closed can shoot out (I think that's what It was titled).

Easily driven as well, from what I've read so you won't be needing an amp.
